Green Chair Project Chair-ity 2022 - Room Designer

A retrospective on the 2022 Green Chair Project Chairity showcase, Stacy Nicole Interiors’ room contribution, and how design partnerships can advance dignity and community support.

The 2022 Chairity showcase brought designers, furnishing partners, and community supporters together around a shared idea: a furnished home can provide stability, dignity, and a stronger beginning.

This article is now presented as a retrospective. The original event dates, ticketing information, and calls to attend have expired.

From Designer Chair Auction to Room Showcase

Chairity evolved from an auction of reimagined chairs into a broader showcase of furnished environments. That expansion allowed designers to demonstrate how individual pieces, color, lighting, layout, art, and accessories work together to create a complete experience.

Stacy Nicole Interiors’ Design Approach

Our contribution centered on the same principles used in client projects:

  • Function: Furniture placement and circulation needed to make sense.
  • Scale: Each piece had to relate correctly to the room and surrounding furnishings.
  • Warmth: Texture, color, and lighting were layered to create welcome.
  • Story: The room needed a clear point of view rather than a collection of disconnected donations.
  • Reuse: Existing pieces were considered for their potential, not dismissed because they were previously owned.

Why Furnished Homes Matter

A home without essential furniture can make daily life significantly harder. Beds, seating, tables, storage, and basic household goods support sleep, meals, schoolwork, caregiving, and routine.

Design does not replace housing or social services. It can, however, help donated resources function better and communicate respect for the people receiving them.

Community Collaboration

Projects like Chairity depend on many contributors: nonprofit staff, volunteers, designers, upholsterers, makers, retailers, photographers, sponsors, and donors. The result is stronger when each participant works within the organization’s actual needs and current operating guidelines.
